5/7/2005, Mom trip day 11: Bicycling around Aioi near the sea

We spent the day riding bicycles around Aioi, especially near the sea.  There were many beautiful sights.  Aioi has a nice harbor and you can ride along the edge of it.  We stopped and had lunch on a "beach" next to the harbor.  The beach was pretty industrial, nothing to do with recreation, but it was a nice time.  Although I didn't have my regular camera, I took a few pictures using my cell phone.

thumbnailHere's my mom, riding again.  I really like this picture because she was really having fun.  We both were.
thumbnailWe saw this little sign along the way.  The left says something like "My smile or your smile, I love them both." The right says something like "If you start with with a smile, you'll have a nice place to live in."

Unfortunately, as we were returning, my mom took a spill on the bicycle and hit her head.  Just to be cautious, we went to the Handa emergency hospital in Aioi.  The doctor was pretty incompetant.  He neglected to ask some important questions and didn't do much to make my mom comfortable while she was there.  The place more resembled a heroine needle exchange location than a hospital.  That's to say it seemed a little shady.  But, they did a CT scan and confirmed that her skull wasn't cracked.  It was some consolation.  It looked pretty nasty.  Indeed, she got a concussion.  It brought about various problems in the present and risks of bigger problems in the future.  But, so far so good.

But, the thing to remember about the day was a wonderful ride around Aioi.  We were both full of life and enjoying the day.
